THE CAFES OF SEOUL
(In Loving Memory of) Cafe Nazzzam
On the go? Need to take a nap? You're in luck... because Seoul has a cafe for that. Unfortunately... Cafe Nazzzam is no longer one of them.
Located near Anguk station in northern Seoul, this used to be the perfect place to go for some peace and quiet, or a quick snooze in the middle of a day full of sight-seeing.
Before entering the space, you'd take off your outdoor shoes and put on a pair of slippers (a common practice when entering homes in Asia). Once inside, you found yourself in a room filled with hammocks that, aside from the zen sounds coming from a sound machine, was dead silent. The owner would write down what time you came in, and then you were guided to your own personal hammock, (equipped with a hot water bottle, privacy curtains, a pillow, and heater - a perfect escape from Seoul's frigid winters).
When you left, the time you spent there was charged by the hour, and you received a complimentary tea or coffee for the road.
After reaching out to the owner to find out their current hours, I was informed that, due to a dead summer, the Cafe closed its doors to the public in August... (C'MON SEOUL... NAP MORE, WOULD YA?!). I'd already started making this page and nap cafes deserve mentioning, so it's staying!
Cafe Nazzzam was a hidden gem, but, fear not! There are other nap cafes in Seoul, I just haven't been to try them out yet!
