Cambodia's recent genocide still has a very visible, crippling, impact on the current state of the country and its people. If you're visiting, be prepared to see and experience these effects first-hand. There are loads of reputable non-profits seeking both volunteers and donations, but many others that take advantage of the bleeding hearts of foreign visitors. When I arrived in Cambodia, I was hit with the biggest wave of travel burnout... which was quite unfortunate, as Cambodia was also about to rock my world.
