I NOW INTERRUPT YOUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED RECAP POST FOR A PREVIEW OF WHAT’S AHEAD!
If you've kept up with my 2016 recap so far, you know that I've had a pretty dope year. This is a bold statement, but I think 2017 is going to be even better. So, what's up next? TWO MONTHS OF FUN-EMPLOYMENT - MY BIG FAT BACKPACKING ADVENTURE - THE TOUR DE ASIA. Keep reading to find out where I'm headed.
I had such good intentions. I told myself that I was not going to have writers ADD this year… By that, I mean I had planned to actually finish my full 2016 recap before writing about my 2017 travels. My last post made it up to June, so I guess that’s not too bad.
My teaching contract in Korea ends this February, and, since one of my biggest motivations for coming here was to travel, I'm going to be exploring new parts of Asia before heading home to the States. I'm so excited to jump on a plane, ditch my daily routine, and begin a two month journey of experiencing new cultures, seeing new countries, and meeting new people. With my departure date drawing nearer and my closet growing emptier, I’m getting really excited, and just can’t hold these plans back any more.
So as to keep baggage costs cheap, I'll only be taking what I can carry on my back. This means downsizing (and hitting the gym so I can actually carry it). I've traveled on long weekend trips with one bag, but never for a journey this long... so it should be interesting to see how it turns out.
I've sent home or sold most of the things I own, and am now wearing the same few sweaters and pair of pants on repeat. I still have a lot of decluttering to do, but am so looking forward finally getting rid of everything and living minimally - (If you're in Seoul and want my clothes/shoes/miscellaneous stuff, hit me up).
If you will be in any of these countries, or if you have recommendations for things to do and see, get in touch – I’d love to hear from you!
Seoul to Hong Kong
Hong Kong to Hanoi, Vietnam
Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam to Yangon, Myanmar
Yangon, Myanmar to Bangkok, Thailand
Bangkok, Thailand to Bali, Indonesia

Kuala Lumpur to Tokyo, Japan
Tokyo to San Francisco
I haven’t booked anything beyond San Francisco, but the plan is to travel some of the west coast before heading home to North Carolina in mid-May. I figure it’s only right to do a little exploring in my own country now that I’ve explored so much of other parts of the world.
As far as the fun-employment, backpacking extravaganza goes, I have made minimal plans for the trip. I have yet to book any accommodations, buses, trains, or activities. If you have recommendations or suggestions about the best things to do, places to stay, foods to eat, or ways to get around, I'd love the hear them! And if our travel dates overlap, let me know! – I’d love to meet ya. Just drop me a line using the contact form below!
